Why Los Cabos Is A Great First Solo International Trip

My trip to Los Cabos was the second international trip that I took alone, and I can confidently say that it’s the perfect destination for a first solo international trip. I found it to be the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure and comfort, without feeling overwhelming. In this post, I share why I think that Los Cabos is the ideal destination for a first-time solo international traveller.

Why Choose Los Cabos As Your First International Trip Alone

Los Cabos Feels International Without Being Intimidating

One of the biggest reasons I feel that Los Cabos is a great first solo international trip is that while it feels like you’re in a foreign country (which you are), it still provides all of the comforts of home.

English is widely spoken in the tourist areas, the signs are easy to understand, and the infrastructure is well developed. This makes navigating the restaurants, transportation, and tours a lot less intimidating if you’re travelling alone for the first time.

Easy Airport Arrivals And Transportation

I was surprised to find that arriving into Los Cabos was smooth sailing, which makes the experience less intimidating. The airport is modern and organized, and the transportation options are well set out.

Not having to figure out a complex transit system definitely makes your first solo international trip much more enjoyable, not to mention safer.

Los Cabos Is Solo-Travel Friendly

Mexico is ideal for a first solo international trip because it's solo-friendly and easy to meet people

Another reason Los Cabos is a great first solo international trip is how solo-friendly it feels. Resorts, hotels, cafés, and tours are used to welcoming solo travellers.

I never felt awkward dining alone or joining excursions by myself. Group tours made it easy to meet other solo travellers, while quiet beach days gave me space to enjoy my own company.

A Safe Destination for First-Time Solo Travellers For A First International Trip

Safety is usually the biggest concern when planning a first solo international trip, and understandably so.

In my experience, Los Cabos felt safe, especially in popular tourist areas like Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Police presence is visible, businesses cater heavily to visitors, and staff are accustomed to helping travellers.

By sticking to well-reviewed areas, using official transportation, and trusting my instincts, I felt comfortable throughout my stay. This is something that’s essential for a first solo trip abroad.

Options for Every Travel Style

Los Cabos works well for many types of solo travellers, which is another reason it’s such a strong first international destination.

Solo travellers can:

  • stay at an all-inclusive resort
  • choose a boutique hotel
  • join adventure tours such as snorkelling or whale watching
  • focus on wellnes with spas, yoga, and beach walks

Having this flexibility is what made my planning easy and stress-free.

Cabo San Lucas vs San José del Cabo: You Can Choose Your Comfort Level

In Mexico you can choose your comfort level. Either relax by a beach or party into the night in Cabo San Lucas

Los Cabos offers two very different vibes, allowing you to ease into solo international travel.

  • Cabo San Lucas is lively and energetic, great if you want tours, nightlife, and activity.
  • San José del Cabo is calmer and more walkable, ideal if you prefer slower travel and quieter evenings.

I loved having this option. Being a novice solo traveller on my international trip to Los Cabos, I opted for the quier area of San José del Cabo. While it was outside of the lively area of Cabo San Lucas, I didn’t have any issues when it came to tours and adventures. I booked all of my tours through the resort and was picked up by the tour company.

Los Cabos Helps Build Solo Travel Confidence

What surprised me most about travelling solo to Los Cabos was how much confidence it gave me. Everything from checking into my hotel to navigating tours and dining alone felt manageable.

By the end of my trip, I felt more comfortable travelling alone internationally and more excited to plan my next destination. That confidence boost is exactly what you want from a first solo international trip.
